Normal day: A probe rejected at prior demand, B rallied into supply, buyers closed near the high.

NIFTY futures set a 345-point initial balance in the first hour: a drop to 22444.6 was rejected, a rally ran to 22790, and the rest of the day stayed inside that range before closing at 22772 near the high. A probe into the previous session's buying tail left excess at the low, the morning pullback never threatened it, and afternoon initiative buying lifted value higher.

How the day unfolded

  1. Probe down rejected at demand · A · 09:15–09:45
The market opened inside the previous session's value and auctioned lower, straight into the prior buying tail. It found buyers at 22444.6 and closed the period well off the low. This left a long buying tail.
  2. B drives into prior supply · B · 09:45–10:15
B was the day's big move, a 285-point rally of initiative buying. It went through yesterday's value high and old single prints and stopped at 22790, inside the prior selling tail. The IB covered the whole day's range.
  3. Responsive selling, then balance · C–G · 10:15–12:45
Sellers responded from the top. They pushed price back through the middle of the range to 22578 in E. Price slipped under the morning VWAP but went nowhere, and heavy selling around 22600–22650 was absorbed. G built the day's fattest volume near the POC.
  4. Buyers return to the top · H–M · 12:45–15:30
H through J were initiative buying that carried price back to 22786, just short of the high. K and L only rotated near the top, and the session closed at 22772.

Why it happened

Excess low at prior demand
The probe lower found the previous session's buying tail and was rejected hard. That ended the downside auction for the day and handed the initiative to buyers.
Low 22444.6 vs prior buying tail 22435–22450 (tested, held); today's tail 22440–22505, 13 rows, excess low
Buyers accepted value higher
Initiative buying outnumbered initiative selling six periods to none. Value and the POC moved up, so buyers controlled the day's fair price, not just its spikes.
Value 22625–22775 vs prior 22470–22635, overlapping higher; POC 22660, +155; close location 0.95, above VWAP 22662.9
The pullback was only responsive
Selling after B came from above prior value, which makes it responsive selling. It never got near the morning low. Large sell prints were absorbed rather than followed, so sellers could not start a new auction.
C, D responsive selling; E low 22578; morning VWAP 22597.9 lost at 11:35 with only 2.3 pts follow-through; 12:41 7,915-lot sell at 22650.4 absorbed, OI build-up reversed
Prior supply capped both highs
The previous session's selling tail held twice, in B and again in J. Buyers controlled the day but had not yet repaired that excess.
Prior selling tail 22760–22855 tested, held; highs 22790 (B) and 22786 (J); 1-row tail at the high, no excess
Inside a multi-day balance, swing still down
The day traded wholly inside the L2 balance, which had been accepted lower. The 10-session migration is up, and price closed above a swing VWAP that is still falling, so the larger picture is mixed.
L2 22600–22810 (accepted down 2026-10-23); 10-session migration +198 UP; swing VWAP 22730.59 sloping −64.3/session; flip 23108.05

What this day teaches

Excess marks the end of an auction
The 13-row buying tail at the prior demand zone was never revisited; the low was set in A and the market spent the rest of the day above it.
A wide IB usually contains a Normal day
The other timeframe did its buying and selling in the first hour, and the 345-point IB held every later period, with no range extension either way.
Responsive moves that fail to reach the other extreme hand control back
Selling from the top stalled at 22578, far above the morning low, and the initiative buyers took the market back to the high by the close.
